Artillery Shelling and Border Incidents
Artillery fire from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) positions in Syria’s Qusayr countryside targeted the Lebanese town of Qasr in the Hermel district. In response to accusations linking Hezbollah to the border clashes, the party denied involvement, with its media relations department reiterating that it has no connection to any incidents inside Syrian territory.
Lebanese Army’s Response
The Lebanese army issued a statement about an incident on March 16, 2025, confirming that two Syrians were killed and another injured near Qasr, Hermel. The wounded individual later died in the hospital. The Lebanese army responded with heightened security measures and returned the bodies of the deceased to Syrian authorities. Additionally, Lebanese villages along the border faced shelling from Syrian territory, prompting the army to retaliate using appropriate weapons and reinforce its presence to prevent further escalation.
Both the Lebanese and Syrian authorities are continuing coordination efforts to manage the crisis and stabilize the border region. These developments highlight the complexity and fragility of the situation in this volatile area.
