22 Lives Lost, 124 Injured: Ceasefire Shaken by Clashes at Lebanon-Israel Border
Following last night’s clashes between Lebanese army, IDF and civilians on borderlines. After the end of the 60-day deadline for the Israeli army’s withdrawal from southern Lebanon, a large number of citizens flocked to southern towns despite the Lebanese Army’s call for caution, and Israeli warnings. In this context, the Israeli army spokesperson accused HА of exploiting the situation, stating: “As usual, HA places its narrow interests above those of the Lebanese state and is trying to escalate tensions through its propaganda” These clashes resulted in the death of 22 including 1 military and the injury of 124+ according to the latest updates from ministry of health.
Statements from officials
President Aoun: Although he said to the people of the south:” Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are non-negotiable, and I am following this issue at the highest levels to ensure your rights and dignity” Citizens are gathering at the entrances of Mays al-Jabal (a village near the borderline) to enter the town alongside the Lebanese Army.
Hamas: We express our solidarity and stand alongside Lebanon—its people, army, and resistance—in confronting Israel
Saad Al Hariri (former prime minister):” I bow before the martyrs and wounded of our defenseless civilians in the south and before their pure will in the face of an occupation that violates the ceasefire agreement. Greetings to our national army, and I hope that our people will abide by its directives to protect them. The international community is immediately called upon to assume its responsibility towards an occupation that is outside its law and an agreement guaranteed and sponsored by major powers and to which Lebanon has fully committed”

MTV’s reporting teams have faced harassment and obstruction while covering events in southern Lebanon. In one instance, an MTV reporter was attacked during a live broadcast near the border. The reporter later provided a detailed account of the incident, which was captured on video.
This incident is part of a broader pattern of challenges faced by Lebanese journalists. Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has documented cases where journalists, including those from MTV, have been subjected to harassment, defamation, and threats, particularly on social media platforms.
As tensions along the southern border continue to rise, the ceasefire agreement is on the verge of collapse. Recent clashes have fueled concerns that a full-scale conflict may be inevitable. Civilians caught in the middle of the fighting are enduring unimaginable hardship, with many displaced and struggling to find shelter and basic necessities.
The international community is increasing its calls for both sides to honor their commitments to peace. World leaders, human rights groups, and diplomats have urged immediate action, hoping to prevent further escalation and address the growing humanitarian crisis. However, the path to peace is fraught with challenges. Mistrust runs deep, and both sides have accused each other of violating the ceasefire, leaving little room for compromise.
The next few days will be crucial in determining whether the region’s future is shaped by dialogue or conflict. If diplomacy falters, the consequences could be devastating, not only for the local population but for the broader stability of the region. The pressure is mounting for a resolution that can bring an end to the violence and pave the way for lasting peace
