Banque du Liban Directs Banks to Disburse Early Payments Under Circulars 158 and 166

In light of the ongoing emergency situation in Lebanon, the Central Council of Banque du Liban convened on October 31, 2024, to address urgent financial needs. Recognizing the strain on individuals and businesses, the Council has prioritized swift action to support the population during this challenging period. The Council’s decisions reflect a commitment to stabilizing the financial landscape and providing essential relief to those most impacted by the economic crisis.

To ensure immediate assistance, the Council has mandated that banks disburse an amount equivalent to two monthly installments at the beginning of November. This provision directly benefits recipients covered under Circulars No. 158 and 166, offering them financial relief to meet their pressing obligations. By accelerating payments, the Council aims to alleviate some of the burdens faced by these beneficiaries as they navigate the current economic challenges.

Looking ahead, it has been clarified that the existing framework of Circulars No. 158 and 166 will continue to operate normally in December. This continuity assures beneficiaries that there will be no abrupt changes to the support mechanisms currently in place, allowing them to plan accordingly. The Banque du Liban remains committed to reviewing and adjusting its policies as needed to uphold stability and support the financial well-being of the Lebanese people.
