New JFK Files Revealed 2025

United States President Donald Trump announced that his administration would release approximately 80,000 pages of files related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Speaking at the Kennedy Center, Trump emphasized that the release would be comprehensive, stating, “I don’t believe we are going to redact anything.” He described the files as containing “a lot of reading” and expressed confidence in their significance.

Executive Order and Historical Context

The announcement followed a January executive order by Trump, which called for the release of all remaining records on the JFK assassination, as well as files related to the assassinations of Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. The order required the director of national intelligence to present a plan for the “full and complete release” of these records within 15 days.

Previous Efforts to Release Records

During his first term, Trump pledged to disclose all outstanding JFK-related records but released only 2,800 documents after the CIA and FBI requested further reviews. The Biden administration later released an additional 17,000 records, leaving fewer than 4,700 files still withheld in part or in full.

Insights into CIA Operations

The newly released documents offer valuable insights into Cold War-era CIA activities. Historians now have unprecedented access to details of U.S. intelligence operations during Kennedy’s presidency. Researchers estimate that around 3,700 files remain unreleased. The rushed release process has drawn criticism for its lack of organization, with scholars lamenting the absence of an index or search tools. Additionally, sensitive personal information, including Social Security numbers, was inadvertently disclosed, prompting legal action and privacy concerns.
