Ortagus Threatens: Sanctions On Lebanese MPs

Morgan Ortagus , the face of beauty and peace , doesn’t seem to want peace with those who defy her orders.

A well-informed banking source told Lebanon Debate that U.S. envoy Morgan Ortagus has warned Lebanese officials that American sanctions may be imposed on certain MPs who obstruct the passing of two crucial financial reform laws: the lifting of banking secrecy and the restructuring of Lebanon’s banking sector.

According to the source, Ortagus delivered a clear warning reflecting Washington’s frustration with what it sees as Lebanon’s delay in implementing required reforms. These reforms are part of the international community’s roadmap(particularly those demanded by the International Monetary Fund). Both draft laws are considered pillars in restructuring the country’s financial system but have faced repeated delays in parliamentary committees due to political disputes and accusations of deliberate obstruction.

The bills to lift banking secrecy and fix the banking sector are key steps in rebuilding Lebanon’s financial system. But they’ve been delayed many times in parliament because of political disagreements and claims of intentional blocking.

Will politicians keep holding things back or will pressure from abroad push things forward?

The question is:
