Musk Exits Washington

Musk Leaves Trump Administration

Elon Musk has stepped down from his government role as a top adviser to President Donald Trump. He had been leading efforts to cut government waste and reform federal agencies. Musk’s time in Washington was marked by big promises, major layoffs, legal battles, and clashes with other officials. Despite his high ambitions, he struggled to make lasting changes and ended up scaling back his goals significantly. At first, Musk aimed to slash $2 trillion in government spending. But over time, that goal shrank to $150 billion. He grew frustrated with the resistance he faced, both politically and within Trump’s own team.

The End of the DOGE Mission

His departure from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was confirmed through a post on X, his social media platform. Musk thanked Trump and said DOGE would continue to grow beyond his time there.

Criticism of Trump’s Spending Bill

Musk’s exit came just after he publicly criticized Trump’s main legislative proposal, calling it a “massive spending bill” that hurt the mission of DOGE. He joked, “A bill can be big or beautiful, but not both.”

Trump acknowledged the bill wasn’t perfect but said it was the result of tough negotiations. He hinted that changes could still be made as the bill moves through the Senate.

What’s Next for the Bill

Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin said he understood Musk’s frustration and warned that the bill could face delays. He emphasized the need for serious spending cuts and said he wouldn’t be pressured to change his vote.

Speaker Mike Johnson asked senators not to make big changes to the bill, fearing it could upset the fragile agreement reached in the House. Once the Senate amends it, the House will have to vote again
