Reviving Lebanese Sports: President Joseph Aoun and Dr. Naji Hammoud Reignite Hope at Sports City

Lebanon’s Sports Sector Enters a New Chapter Under Dr. Naji Hammoud

Beirut, Lebanon – The election of Dr. Naji Hammoud as a General Manager of Sports Facilities of Sports City has marked the beginning of a transformative era for Lebanese . Unlike the “Strong Era” that preceded it, the seeds of the “New Era” have begun to sprout, starting with the youth and sports sector.
After seven years of halted operations, Sports City is on the verge of regaining its glory as the heartbeat of Lebanese sports.

Dr. Hammoud, known for his unwavering commitment and strategic vision, has played a pivotal role in building a credible and promising foundation for this new chapter. Under his guidance and the leadership of President Joseph Aoun, the revival of Sports City is not just a vision but a reality in progress.

The iconic football and basketball stadiums at Sports City are set to reopen soon, signaling a major comeback for Lebanese athletics. The football stadium, once dormant, now has fresh grass growing, symbolizing the rebirth of the country’s sports legacy. The basketball court is also being prepped to host games that will once again bring fans together.
Dr. Hammoud gave us a sneak peek into his new plan, in addition to addressing other topics.

A Sneak peek

When asked about his priorities upon taking office, he stated:
“My main focus was on revitalizing this facility, which is considered a cultural and sports landmark in Beirut. Given its location just five minutes from the airport, it was essential to develop a new plan for its revival. Moreover, this facility is one of the significant achievements of the late Prime Minister Rafic Al Hariri, which is still remembered to this day.”
Regarding the reopening of the sports city:
“Today, we are working with limited resources to enable the facility to host all kinds of activities, whether sports or cultural, starting from March of this year. There’s no doubt that the entire management must cooperate, unite, and stop prioritizing personal interests over public ones.”

This revitalization of Lebanon’s largest stadium, after seven years of inactivity, is more than just a restoration of infrastructure—it represents hope and a renewed sense of purpose for Lebanese sports enthusiasts. The combination of Dr. Naji Hammoud expertise and Joseph Aoun’s visionary leadership is poised to bring life back to the stadiums and inspire the next generation of athletes.
He added:
“The step of reopening and remarketing will be the first step to attract foreign investors to this sector.”
When asked if he is optimistic about Lebanon’s future, he stated:
“Of course, the election of President Joseph Aoun is a promising start for a new era. I have full confidence that he will lead Lebanon into a golden age.”

He also promised the Lebanese youth, both at home and abroad:
“The facilities that were once part of their childhood and their country’s culture will return, better than ever.”

The revival of Sports City stands as a shining example of what can be achieved through collaboration, determination, and a shared vision for the future. After a period of dormancy, this iconic hub of athleticism is once again coming to life, symbolizing a renewed sense of hope and enthusiasm for sports in Lebanon. With the doors reopening and the stadium lights illuminating the field, the country is poised to experience a vibrant rescue in its sports culture, an aspect of society that has long been a source of pride and unity. This revitalization is being spearheaded by two of Lebanon’s most capable and driven individuals, whose unwavering commitment efforts have breathed new life into this cherished institution. Their leadership and passion serve as an inspiring reminder of the power of teamwork and the potential to overcome challenges when working toward a common goal.
