
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam visited the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities to launch the operations room for the upcoming municipal and mayoral elections. Speaking at the event, Salam said that municipal elections are important for “renewing the blood in the nation’s arteries.” He added that once elections are completed, the government will shift its focus to studying and advancing various national projects.
Young People Urged to Participate
Salam called on young people across Lebanon to both run for office and vote, highlighting that political renewal can only happen through their active involvement. He also confirmed that the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities is fully prepared to supervise and organize the electoral process.
A Step Toward Administrative Decentralization
Prime Minister Salam stressed that the municipal elections might be the first step toward activating the long-awaited administrative decentralization. Many in Lebanon have been calling for decentralization for years, and these elections could mark real progress toward that goal.
Interior Minister: Elections Will Be Held On Time
Interior Minister Ahmed Hajjar also spoke, emphasizing that the ministry and the state will not allow their work to be influenced by the agenda of the Israeli. He firmly stated that the elections will be held on time according to Lebanon’s national agenda.
Minister Hajjar said that all regions in Lebanon are being carefully monitored for security risks. He added :
diplomatic efforts, led by the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister, are underway to safeguard Lebanon’s sovereignty by ensuring the elections are conducted as planned.
He also confirmed that the Ministry of Interior is coordinating with security forces, the army, and international ceasefire monitoring committees to ensure a smooth and safe electoral process.
