Lebanon Seeks $500M In Tech Funding

Lebanon’s Digital Future and Reconstruction Plans

Lebanon’s Minister of the Displaced and Minister of State for Technology and AI, Kamal Chahadeh, is a technology and telecom expert. He studied at Harvard and earned a PhD from Columbia, where he also taught, along with AUB. He held top positions at UAE’s Group &e and helped create the Lebanese Association for Democratic Elections. He has also researched Lebanon’s public finance and reforms

  • Chahadeh Stated to CNN Economic that he wants to bring $500 million in tech investments over four years and increase the number of digital companies by 200% in five years. He believes Lebanon has strong human talent in technology and AI, which can help boost the digital economy and create new jobs.
  • Chahadeh also spoke about Lebanon’s reconstruction needs. He estimated that rebuilding damaged areas in South Lebanon, the Beqaa, and Beirut’s southern suburbs will cost $10–12 billion. The government’s main focus is securing funds for reconstruction while also working to improve Lebanon’s digital sector.
  • He also said that Lebanon is looking to partner with Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar in AI and technology. To attract more investors, the government is working on improving laws, infrastructure, and security. He has also advised on major projects, including Beirut Port’s container terminal and Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation strategy.

The minister believes that investing in technology and rebuilding infrastructure will help drive economic growth and create new opportunities. With strong partnerships, skilled talent, and the right policies, Lebanon can become a regional hub for digital innovation. However, success will depend on securing investments, stability, and implementing reforms to build a stronger and more resilient economy.
