Lebanese innovator Hisham Al-Hassami has launched the country’s first smart electric taxi powered by solar energy and manufactured in Lebanon, marking a milestone in sustainable transport development.
The initiative, titled “Lira Smart Taxi,” aims to modernize public transportation while promoting environmental sustainability and social inclusion. According to a statement released by Al-Hassami, the project introduces a forward-looking urban mobility model that relies on clean energy and advanced technology to reduce operating costs for drivers and improve service quality for passengers.
The vehicle operates on electric power supported by solar panels and integrates a smart trip management system alongside a modern digital meter. It is also equipped with interior cameras to enhance passenger safety and a QR code that allows riders to access driver information, reinforcing transparency and trust.

Designed with accessibility in mind, the taxi includes features tailored for passengers with disabilities, ensuring easy entry and exit and providing a safe and comfortable transportation experience for all.
Al-Hassami described the project as a qualitative leap for Beirut’s transport sector, reflecting a broader industrial vision aimed at supporting the national economy and presenting a modern model of sustainable mobility that serves diverse segments of society.
He concluded by emphasizing that the achievement highlights the capacity of Lebanese industry to deliver innovative, high-standard solutions that combine technological advancement with social responsibility.
