Russia Launches Large Scale Precision Strike on Kyiv Ahead of NATO Summit

Russia announced on Monday that it had carried out a large-scale military strike targeting Kyiv and several other locations across Ukraine, employing long-range precision-guided weapons and drones launched from the air, land, and sea.

In a statement published on Telegram, the Russian Ministry of Defense said the operation targeted military installations, energy infrastructure in and around the Ukrainian capital, and military airfields in multiple regions of the country.

Civilian Casualties Reported

Ukrainian officials said the attacks killed at least 10 people in the Kyiv region, while dozens more were injured. The strikes came on the eve of a NATO summit in Ankara, as residents reported hearing repeated explosions across the capital.

According to Kyiv Military Administration chief Tymur Tkachenko, nine people were killed and 46 others wounded in the capital alone.

In the nearby Bucha district, regional authorities confirmed that at least one person was killed. Regional military administration head Mykola Kalashnyk accused Russia of once again deliberately targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure.

Residential Buildings Damaged

Ukraine’s emergency services reported that at least 15 residential buildings were damaged or destroyed during the bombardment, including a nine-story apartment building in Kyiv’s Podilskyi district. Rescue teams continued searching the rubble for possible survivors, while additional damage was reported to a warehouse in the Obolonskyi district.

The latest assault follows another major wave of Russian strikes last week that killed 30 people and injured nearly 100 others in Kyiv, in what Ukrainian officials described as the most intense attack on the capital since the start of the war.
