Yassine Jaber: New Announcement

Lebanon’s Finance Minister, Yassine Jaber, held his first meeting with the Association of Banks in Lebanon following his appointment. The discussions focused on key issues amidst ongoing negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to address Lebanon’s financial challenges.

Preparations for IMF Negotiations

After the meeting, Jaber described it as a congratulatory visit and emphasized the importance of coordination among all stakeholders, particularly banks, as Lebanon prepares to negotiate with the IMF. He highlighted the need to establish laws and regulations to address banking issues, depositors’ funds, and banking secrecy.

Upcoming Appointments and Collaboration

Jaber expressed optimism about future collaboration, noting that preparations are underway to appoint a new governor for Lebanon’s central bank, along with deputy governors and members of the Banking Control Commission by June. He stressed the importance of creating a comprehensive framework to tackle Lebanon’s ongoing crisis and restore confidence among depositors.
