For the first time outside Makkah, the complete Kiswah of the Holy Kaaba has been displayed to the public. This historic event took place during the Islamic Arts Biennale 2025 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, drawing global attention and admiration.

1. What is the Kiswah?

The Kiswah is the sacred cloth that covers the Kaaba in Makkah’s Grand Mosque.

  • It is made of black silk and decorated with gold and silver embroidery.
  • Its inscriptions include verses from the Qur’an, symbolizing deep spiritual meaning for Muslims worldwide.
  • The Kiswah is replaced every year during the Hajj season.

Since 1927, the King Abdulaziz Complex for Holy Kaaba Kiswa has been responsible for weaving and preparing this masterpiece.

The Biennale is being held at the Western Hajj Terminal of King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, running until May 25, 2025.

Hosted by the Diriyah Biennale Foundation, the event brings together:
