Trump Reveals Tense Call With Netanyahu Over Ongoing Lebanon Conflict

U.S. President Voices Frustration as Diplomatic Efforts Continue

U.S. President Donald Trump has disclosed details of a recent phone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, acknowledging that the discussion was marked by a firm tone amid his growing frustration over the continued conflict involving Lebanon.

Speaking during a podcast interview aired on Wednesday, Trump said he was disappointed by the persistence of hostilities despite ongoing diplomatic efforts. While emphasizing that his relationship with Netanyahu remains strong, he admitted that the situation in Lebanon was a source of concern.

“I wasn’t angry, but I was certainly frustrated by the continuation of the conflict,” Trump said, referring to his conversation with the Israeli leader.

Washington Pushes for Comprehensive Agreement

Trump’s remarks come as the United States intensifies efforts to facilitate direct negotiations between Lebanon and Israel in hopes of reaching a broader agreement aimed at ending recurring security tensions along the border.

The U.S. State Department recently reported progress in the fourth round of direct talks between the two sides, describing the negotiations as advancing on both political and security tracks.

State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said the discussions have overcome obstacles that persisted for decades and are moving toward an arrangement designed to reinforce Lebanese sovereignty while addressing Israel’s security concerns.

A fifth round of negotiations was scheduled to take place on Wednesday.

Military Operations Continue Despite Ceasefire

Despite diplomatic progress, Israeli military operations inside Lebanese territory have continued in recent weeks, even after a U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement reached on April 17 and later extended through early July.

At the same time, a new round of direct talks has begun in Washington as mediators seek to secure a lasting ceasefire and prevent further escalation.

Key Disputes Remain Unresolved

According to Lebanese sources familiar with the negotiations, Beirut’s delegation continues to prioritize a complete end to hostilities and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied areas.

Israeli representatives, meanwhile, remain focused on the issue of Hezbollah’s weapons capabilities and maintaining operational freedom to respond to potential security threats.

Sources indicated that the opening session included serious discussions and an exchange of proposals among all parties involved. However, no major breakthrough has been achieved so far.

Lebanese officials are reportedly placing significant hopes on Trump’s influence to help secure a permanent ceasefire and advance the negotiating process.

Most Serious U.S. Mediation Effort in Years

The talks involve diplomatic and military officials from both Lebanon and Israel and are being viewed by observers as one of Washington’s most ambitious mediation efforts in years.

With negotiations continuing and regional tensions still high, international attention remains focused on whether the current diplomatic momentum can be translated into a durable agreement capable of ending one of the region’s longest-running security disputes.
