President Donald Trump proposed a new visa program for foreign investors called the “Golden Card”. This card can be bought for $5 million and is a way to get U.S. citizenship.
Trump said the Golden Card will replace the EB-5 visa program, which gives permanent residency (a “Green Card”) to those who invest large amounts of money to create or keep jobs in the U.S.
The EB-5 program gives foreigners who invest in U.S. businesses a Green Card or permanent residency. Trump said, “We will sell Golden Cards… We will set the price at around $5 million.”
Trump mentioned that the Golden Card will give the same benefits as the Green Card and will also be a path to U.S. citizenship. He added, “Wealthy people will come to our country by buying this card.”
