The Government’s First Meeting

The government held its first meeting, led by President Joseph Aoun and attended by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and ministers at Baabda Palace. The President congratulated the government on gaining Parliament’s trust with 95 votes and emphasized the importance of responsibility.

Key Decisions:

2025 Budget: The government decided to approve the 2025 budget by decree to avoid delays in public services. The Finance Minister was assigned to adjust fees and taxes to reduce the impact on citizens. Reforms: Ministries must create detailed lists of necessary reforms and set a timeline for their plan Appointments: A transparent process will be used for upcoming administrative appointments. Regulatory Bodies: These will be formed in cooperation with the Ministry of Administrative Development and the Civil Service Board.

President’s Visit to Saudi Arabia

President Aoun shared details about his visit to Saudi Arabia and his participation in the Arab Summit in Cairo. He stressed that the Cabinet, not political parties or religious groups, should make key decisions.

Nawaf Salam’s Remarks

Prime Minister Salam said the government is launching major reforms in administration, finance, and law. He reminded ministers to implement all necessary laws within 45 days.

The prime minister also highlighted the importance of holding Cabinet meetings in an independent location rather than the presidential palace or prime minister’s office, to reinforce the government’s independence.
