On Monday evening, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman welcomed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the Royal Court in Al-Salam Palace, Jeddah. The two leaders held formal talks ahead of Tuesday’s meetings in Jeddah, which focus on peace in Ukraine and resolving recent disagreements between Washington and Kyiv. According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the Crown Prince emphasized Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting international efforts to resolve the Ukrainian crisis and achieve peace.
Ukraine’s Peace Efforts
He mentioned discussing with the Crown Prince the steps and conditions needed to end the war and ensure lasting peace. The talks between Ukraine and the United States are expected to focus on a minerals agreement and ways to end the Russia-Ukraine war.
Zelensky confirmed he would not attend the talks himself. Instead, the Ukrainian delegation will include his chief of staff, the foreign and defense ministers, and a senior military official. These talks mark the first formal meeting since Zelensky’s intense encounter with former U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House.
