Minister Youssef Rajji in Cairo 2025

Lebanon Reaffirms Sovereignty and National Unity

In his speech during the 163rd session of the Council of Arab Foreign Ministers held in Cairo, Lebanon’s Foreign Minister, Youssef Rajji, affirmed that the new Lebanese government is adopting a clear policy centered on asserting full sovereignty over all Lebanese territories. He emphasized the importance of limiting arms to the state alone, granting it the full authority over decisions of war and peace. He also reiterated Lebanon’s commitment to the National Pact, the Taif Agreement, and genuine power-sharing among all components of Lebanese society, fostering national unity and effective participation.

Condemnation of Ongoing Israeli Aggression

Rajji condemned Israel’s continued acts of aggression against Lebanon, stating:

“The world has witnessed Lebanon’s full commitment to the provisions of the cessation of hostilities declaration, yet Israel insists on undermining this agreement and continues, on a daily basis, to violate Lebanon’s sovereignty and the sanctity of its territory.”

He affirmed Lebanon’s dedication to peaceful and diplomatic approaches and to the full and comprehensive implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701. Rajji stressed that Lebanon’s legitimate security institutions especially the Lebanese Army are determined to uphold these national responsibilities.

Call for International Pressure on Israel

Reiterating Lebanon’s position, Rajji declared:

“We call on the international community to pressure Israel to stop its aggressions and to compel it to immediately, fully, and unconditionally withdraw from all Lebanese territory.”

He also called for a return to the 1949 Armistice Agreement as a framework for de-escalation.

Unwavering Support for the Palestinian Cause

The Lebanese Foreign Minister expressed complete support for the Palestinian people and their right to an independent state. He firmly rejected any attempt to displace or resettle Palestinians in alternative host countries, affirming Lebanon’s historical stance on the issue.

Openness to Cooperation with Syria

Highlighting regional cooperation, Rajji stated:

“The Lebanese state is ready to cooperate with the Syrian Arab Republic to facilitate the return of refugees, secure the borders, and address all other outstanding issues between the two countries, foremost among them the file of the missing persons.”
