According to Reuters, a man who had recently moved his family back to Pakistan from the United States confessed to fatally shooting his teenage daughter due to his disapproval of her TikTok content, Pakistani police reported on Wednesday. Initially, Anwar al-Haq claimed that unidentified gunmen had killed his 15-year-old daughter on a street in Quetta, but later admitted to committing the crime himself.
Family’s Disapproval and Investigation
According to police investigator Zohaib Mohsin, the family objected to the victim’s attire, lifestyle, and social activities. Authorities have seized her locked phone as part of their investigation, which includes the possibility of the killing being linked to so-called “honor” motives. They also refused to respond to a Reuters request for a comment.
Return to Conservative Social Norms
The family had recently returned to Baluchistan province in Pakistan, a country with deeply rooted conservative traditions, after spending approximately 25 years in the United States.
Suspect’s Justification and Arrest
Haq, who holds U.S. citizenship, told authorities that his daughter had begun creating what he described as “inappropriate” TikTok content while in the United States. He claimed she continued sharing videos after their return to Pakistan. Police have also arrested Haq’s brother-in-law in connection with the case.

Haq has been formally charged with murder. However, authorities have not provided evidence of his U.S. citizenship beyond his own statement, nor have they confirmed whether the U.S. embassy has been notified of the incident. The suspect’s family has declined to comment.
