Data Leak at Lebanese Telecom Sparks Investigation

In Lebanon, Your Phone’s in Your Pocket, But Your Data? In a Stranger’s Pocket.
It sounds like a Hollywood movie but nope, it’s just another day in Lebanon.

Around two weeks ago, a man nobody knows walks into one of the two telecom companies, claiming to be an engineer from a well-known international firm. Smooth, confident, and apparently very convincing , or maybe just lucky to find the right kind of employee.

No ID, No Verification, No Questions

He flashes his USB stick, says he needs it plugged into a laptop and the employee agreed!
Let me pause here: You’re telling me this telecom staffer believed a global tech company would send one random man, alone, no ID, no prior verification, to access company systems? No questions, no second thoughts?

So yes, the man plugs in his USB, pulls out sensitive data, and walks out. Just like that. Clean. Simple.

The cherry on top? Later on, they try accessing the same laptop and realize it’s glitching. Only then do they figure out this man isn’t with the company he claimed to represent. He doesn’t work for any company at all. And the phone number he used to contact them? Registered to an ice cream shop.

Security Agencies Launch Investigation

MTV reports that Lebanon’s security agencies opened an investigation. A few employees were summoned. But so far? Zero clue who the man was, or who he’s working for.

Is he a cybercriminal? A foreign agent?
All scenarios are on the table especially after recent major security breaches involving Hezbollah and Iran’s cyber network. Still, no one knows the full extent of what was taken.

Official Response: “Just a Virus”

MTV reached out to the Ministry of Telecommunications. Their response?
Just a “virus.” Nothing to worry about.
And the worst part?
Till now, nobody actually knows who that man was and more dangerously, no one knows what kind of information he stole. suggest titles and hashtags for this
