The U.S. Embassy in Syria welcomed the constitutional declaration, which, according to its drafting committee, includes freedoms designed for all segments of the Syrian people.
In a post on the platform “X,” the embassy wrote, “The United States welcomes the constitutional declaration and the formation of the Syrian government, and hopes it will be a positive step toward an inclusive Syria.”
The declaration was officially signed in March by Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa. The drafting committee noted that it draws its legitimacy from a shared aspiration to build a renewed Syrian state.
Upon receiving the draft, President Al-Sharaa said, “We hope this marks the beginning of a new era for the Syrian people—an era of progress and development. May this be the moment where ignorance gives way to education, and suffering is replaced with compassion.”
